Relating and Suggesting Products
re:Members AMS offers a few ways of grouping or offering other products when something is being purchased. These methods are called
-
relating products, and
-
suggesting products.
These two features can be easy to confuse. Here's a quick comparison to help you decide which is the best fit for any given situation:
Related Products appear in correlation with the primary product1 in the online store and can be added to the purchase by simply checking a box. They can also be set to automatically be added to the cart. However, there is limited control over related product quantities, and customers are not presented with any of a related product's itemized custom fields. This can affect the customer's eligibility for the product or a particular price.
Suggested Products appear in the cart stage of the purchase process. When a customer elects to View a suggested product, they are redirected to the purchase wizard for that product. This allows the customer to go through the full purchase process for that product, including itemized custom fields and (when applicable) quantity selection. At the end of the process, the customer is returned to the cart which will contain the selected primary and suggested products. However, the customer must manually return to the cart if they choose not to purchase the suggested product after viewing it. Suggested products cannot be set as required, preselected, or included during mass renewal.
